Henna Safety & Aftercare

We're committed to your safety and the longevity of your henna. Here's what you need to know about natural henna, proper care, and what to expect.

Natural Henna, Always

We use only natural, plant-based henna. No harmful chemicals, no shortcuts. Our henna comes from trusted sources and is tested for purity and safety before every application.

Your skin deserves the real thing—not synthetic dyes or black henna with hidden additives.

PPD-Free Guarantee

We never use PPD (paraphenylenediamine), the chemical found in black henna that causes allergic reactions and skin damage.

Black henna is a red flag. Real henna is reddish-brown. If someone offers "black henna," it's not safe. We stick to authentic, tested natural henna only.

Proper Aftercare for Best Results

1

Keep the Paste On (6–8 Hours)

Leave the henna paste on for at least 6–8 hours for the deepest stain. The longer it sits, the darker the color. Don't wash it off early, even if it feels dry—the stain develops as it sets.

2

Avoid Water for 24 Hours

After you remove the paste, keep your henna away from water for at least 24 hours. This means no washing hands, no swimming, no showers on the henna area. The stain continues to oxidize and darken during this time.

3

Use Lemon Juice for Darkening

While the paste is on, mist your henna with a mix of lemon juice and sugar every 30–60 minutes. This keeps it moist and helps the color develop deeper and richer. Fresh lemon works best.

4

Moisturize Daily

After 24 hours, keep your skin moisturized with lotion or oil. This helps the henna stain last longer and prevents your skin from drying out. Coconut oil, almond oil, or regular hand cream all work well.

How Long Does Henna Last?

Natural henna typically lasts 1–3 weeks, depending on:

  • Aftercare: Proper moisturizing and water avoidance extend the stain.
  • Paste time: Longer paste application = darker, longer-lasting stain.
  • Skin type: Oily skin holds henna longer; dry skin may fade faster.
  • Hand washing: Frequent washing speeds fading. Wear gloves when possible.

Allergies & Sensitivities

While natural henna is safe for most people, allergies are rare but possible. If you have sensitive skin or a history of allergies to plants or dyes, let us know during your free consultation.

We can do a patch test 24 hours before your appointment to ensure you have no reaction.

Patch Testing

We recommend a small patch test if this is your first time with henna. We'll apply a small amount on your inner arm or behind your ear and wait 24 hours to check for any reaction.

No reaction? You're good to go for your full henna design.

Common Questions About Henna Safety

Is henna safe during pregnancy?

Natural henna is generally considered safe during pregnancy, but always consult your doctor or midwife first. We recommend a patch test before your appointment. If you have any concerns, discuss them with your healthcare provider.

What's the difference between henna and black henna?

Real henna: Natural plant dye, reddish-brown color, safe for skin.

Black henna: Contains PPD (a chemical) that causes burns, allergic reactions, and permanent scarring. It's illegal in some countries. Never use it. We use only natural henna.

Can henna stain clothes or furniture?

Yes, fresh henna paste can stain. Wear old clothes during your appointment and avoid touching furniture or white fabrics. Once the paste is removed and the stain has set (after 24 hours), it won't transfer. We'll also take precautions during your at-home service.

Will henna fade evenly?

Henna fades gradually as your skin naturally sheds. The stain will be darkest in the first 1–2 weeks, then slowly lighten. It won't disappear all at once—you'll see a gradual fade. Proper aftercare and moisturizing help maintain an even, longer-lasting stain.

Can I remove henna if I don't like it?

Henna fades naturally over time, so there's no permanent damage. If you want to fade it faster, exfoliate gently, wash your hands more frequently, and avoid moisturizing heavily. You can also cover it with makeup or long sleeves if needed. But give it a few days—you might love it once the color fully develops!

Your Safety Is Our Priority

We're licensed and insured, and we take henna safety seriously. Every step—from sourcing natural ingredients to proper application and aftercare guidance—is designed to give you beautiful, safe results.
